MELONE MANTOVANO
The Mantuan Melon, from the Cucurbitaceae family, is the fruit of the species Cucumis Melo, grown in a specific production area according to agricultural practices, conditions, and standards established in a production specification filed by the Consorzio Melone Mantovano.
The characteristics that distinguish these high-quality fruits are their sweetness, texture, and juiciness. The Mantuan Melon also has a unique aroma reminiscent of watermelon, linden, and zucchini. The production area for the “Melone Mantovano” spans approximately 89,000 hectares across the Provinces of Mantua and Cremona. In the Province of Mantua, the production area includes the entire administrative territories of the municipalities of Borgoforte, Carbonara sul Po, Castellucchio, Ceresara, Commessaggio, Dosolo, Felonica, Gazoldo degli Ippoliti, Gazzuolo, Goito, Magnacavallo, Marcaria, Piubega, Poggio Rusco, Pomponesco, Redondesco, Rivarolo Mantovano, Rodigo, Sabbioneta, San Martino dall’Argine, Sermide, and Viadana.
